Themed Program - African Heritage in Salvador

By using the tours already available, one can create a series of programs on special interest or themes for specific audiences. Here is an example of a one of these programs focusing on the African Heritage in Salvador


 

Day 01

Arrival at Salvador followed by transfer to selected hotel


Day 02

AM African Heritage City Tour (link)

Note: The African Heritage City Tour is an introductory tour to the city, as well as the Essential Salvador or the Walking City Tour. However it is focused on the contribution and related elements of the African migrant in the city. On this tour we visit the Afro-Brazilian Museum (closed on SAT, SUN and holidays) that showcases artwork of the various African peoples and tribes who were brought to Bahia during the slave trade period. We also visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos (Our Lady of the Black's Rosary) built with meager resources of the black people and one of the iconic churches in the historical center. This is an indispensable tour to provide context on the uniqueness of Bahian culture.


Lunch: SENAC (Standard option)

Note: By offering a buffet of 40 dishes, mostly with deep influences of African cuisine, the lunch at SENAC's culinary school restaurant serves as a introduction to the variety and richness of Bahian gastronomy and how deeply it is influenced by African culture, specially in contrast with the culinary of other locations in the country


PM Candomblé Insight (link)

Note:Candomblé religion is the main source of many of the cultural aspects of Bahia Culture: gastronomy, music, dance as well as inpiration for many artists from literature to visual arts. It is the backbone of all things African in Bahia. This tour aims to serve as an introduction to the religion and its fundamentals and philosophy offering a deeper understanding of how deep Bahian culture is influenced by African heritage.


EVE - Bahia by Night: Folklore Show (Teatro Miguel Santana or Coliseu)

Note: The folklore show is a showcase of the many cultural manifestations of Bahian culture condensed on a 50-minute performance. Please pay attention on the current availability on each shows available in town. While the performance at Coliseu has dinner included, the Teatro Miguel Santana option can included or not dinner. Restaurants like Uauá, Odoyá and Cuco Bistro, located on the vicinities of the theater, are optimal options for dinner


Day 03

FD Cachoeira Country Ride (link)

Note: Cachoeira is the soul of African Heritage in Salvador. It was once one of the most prosperous city in colonial Brazil and carries to this day many elements of this importance on its architecture and traditions. This rural part of the state is home of the last Sisterhood of African Women in the country, the Sisterhood of Our Lady of the Good Death, a women's group that devoted their lifes to free up enslaved people by purchasing their freedom.

Note: amazing contemporary Bahian Cuisine by awarded chef Tereza Paim


DAY 04

AM Percussion Workshop

Note: An engaging and fun tour with a hands-on experience. On this tours we understand how great names of Bahian music such as Olodum and Timbalada were inspired by the rhythms of Candomblé to bring their own music to the top charts of pop music
